About the Product
Tiger & Dragon is a fast tile-shedding game of attack, defense, and timing, inspired by the traditional Japanese game Goita.
Players are trying to be the first to empty their hand of tiles. On your turn, you attack by playing a tile, and the next player may defend by playing a matching tile. If they defend successfully, they get to launch the next attack. If they cannot, or choose not to, the attack continues around the table. The rhythm is simple, but the decisions get sharp quickly: when do you spend a valuable tile, when do you hold back, and when do you let someone else deal with the problem?
The first player to play all their tiles scores based on the final tile they played, and the game continues until someone reaches 10 points. Different scoring cards change the feel of each game, giving the same tile system a variety of little tactical flavours.
Tiger & Dragon has the satisfying feel of a classic pub-style tile game: quick rounds, easy rules, and lots of table-reading. It plays 2–5 players in about 20 minutes and is recommended for ages 8+. It was designed by Atsushi Hashimoto and published by Oink Games.
What We Think
We haven’t played Tiger & Dragon yet, but this one looks like a great fit for people who enjoy traditional-feeling games with modern production. It has that appealing “simple to explain, hard to play well” energy.
The attack-and-defense system sounds especially fun because you’re not just playing your own hand in isolation. You’re watching what tiles other players spend, trying to guess what they’re saving, and waiting for the right moment to empty your hand before anyone else can stop you.
This feels like one of those games where the first round teaches the rules, and the second round is when everyone starts leaning forward.
Why You Might Like It
You might like Tiger & Dragon if you enjoy tile games, hand management, ladder-climbing or shedding games, and quick tactical games with a traditional card-game feel.
It should be a good pick for fans of compact Oink Games titles, players who like games such as Scout, and anyone who enjoys clever little games where every tile in your hand feels like it has a secret agenda. Tiny box, sharp teeth. 🐅🐉
