About the Product
The jungle fruit shop is busy, the orders are piling up, and nobody is entirely sure what fruit is actually in stock.
In Durian, players are clerks at a fruit shop taking customer orders without being able to see their own inventory card. You can see what the other players have, but not what you have yourself, so every order is made with just enough uncertainty to become dangerous.
On your turn, you’ll choose one of two fruit orders to accept. But if the shop takes too many orders for fruit it doesn’t have, someone can ring the bell and call the manager over. Unfortunately, the manager is a huge angry gorilla. If there really are too many orders, the player who caused the problem gets in trouble. But if the order situation was actually fine, the player who rang the bell gets blamed instead.
That creates a funny little pressure cooker of deduction, memory, and bluffing. Do you trust that the fruit is available? Do you call the manager? Or do you quietly hope someone else causes the disaster first?
Durian is a quick, chaotic Oink Games title with a silly theme, simple rules, and a tiny handbell that makes every accusation feel official. It plays 2–7 players in about 20 minutes and is recommended for ages 7+. It was designed by Masato Uesugi, with artwork by Hiroko Izumida.
What We Think
We haven’t played Durian yet, but this sounds like a great fit for families and casual game nights. The idea of only seeing everyone else’s inventory while being blind to your own is a nice little twist, especially when players are all trying to decide whether the fruit shop has crossed into gorilla-emergency territory.
We also like that the game gives players a big, funny physical moment: ringing the bell. That kind of component can make a simple game feel much more memorable at the table.
This looks like one of those small-box games where the rules are easy, but the table energy does most of the heavy lifting. Fruit, panic, bell. Perfectly reasonable business model.
Why You Might Like It
You might like Durian if you enjoy light deduction games, bluffing, memory, silly themes, and quick games that create a lot of table chatter.
It should be a good pick for families, casual groups, Oink Games fans, and players who like games where everyone is mostly confident, slightly wrong, and one bell ring away from disaster.
